United Nations Principles (PRI)

Endorsing UN Principles for Responsible Investment

The Caisse was part of the first wave of global institutional investors to endorse the United Nations (UN) Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). These principles provide for the integration of environmental, social and corporate governance issues in investment activities.  According to their promoter, the UN’s former Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, these principles "provide financial institutions with a framework for achieving better long-term investment returns and more sustainable markets".

Other global fund managers, such as the Norwegian Government Pension Fund and the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations de France, are also among the signatories of these Principles. Up until now, over 200 investors, managers and experts have endorsed the PRI. Together, they manage over 10 trillion dollars ($10,000 billion), which gives them tremendous power of influence.

A Consistent Approach
Endorsement of the PRI is part of our contribution to the international coalition in favour of responsible investment.  The Caisse is a member of one of the committees set up by the PRI Board and is actively involved in work to implement the Principles, in addition to taking part in events uniting the largest participants in the international financial community.
