The Equity Markets team manages the Caisse’s investments in publicly-traded securities. These financial products are characterized by their high liquidity and potential for long-term returns above those of fixed-income securities.

The team’s professionals trade these securities on the stock exchanges of Toronto, New York, London, Tokyo and other regions of the world.

Mandate
Manage specialized Canadian and foreign equity portfolios in order to generate a higher return than the market indices, while taking into consideration the authorized risk limits.

Buy and sell securities on international markets.

Benefit from its specific expertise in trading equity derivatives.

Specialized Portfolios
The team is responsible for managing seven portfolios:

• Canadian Equity
• U.S. Equity, Hedged
• U.S. Equity, Unhedged
• Foreign Equity, Hedged
• Foreign Equity, Unhedged
• Emerging Markets Equity
• Québec International (jointly managed by the Fixed Income team)

Investment Approach
Under their equity market approach, the Caisse’s portfolio managers emphasize:

• An approach based on fundamental research and earnings outlook over the long term;
• Inefficient markets where they have a competitive hedge (size of assets, investment horizon, etc.);
• A bottom-up approach (security selection over sector selection);
• A dynamic and balanced management of risk and return.
