Profile
Jean-Luc Gravel has been Executive Vice-President, Equity Markets, with the Caisse's Investment Management sector since April 30, 2009. He oversees the equity investment teams covering the Canadian and U.S. markets as well as foreign countries, including emerging markets, and is responsible for developing strategies and exploring new opportunities for all of the Caisse's equity market activities. He also sits on the Executive Committee.
Background
Prior to this newest appointment, Mr. Gravel had been Senior Vice-President, Canadian Equity, since 2004. Under his leadership, the team of 25 portfolio managers and financial analysts achieved a very good performance.
Mr. Gravel began his investing career in the securities market in 1982 with the firm Gendron Norris. He subsequently became a financial reporter for the investment section of the newspaper Les Affaires. He first worked at the Caisse between 1985 and 1987 as a financial analyst for the holding companies, industrial products and forestry products sectors. His career progressed in Canadian equity with Nesbitt Burns, where he was named Director, Institutional Sales. He then became a partner at Newcrest Capital before joining TD Newcrest Securities in Montréal, where he later became Managing Director, Corporate Finance.
Connections
Jean-Luc Gravel is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and an MBA graduate from the University of Ottawa and holds a B.Sc. from the Université de Sherbrooke. In 1985, he became a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Montréal Exchange from 1995 to 1998. He is currently member of the Board of Directors of the International Financial Centre of Montréal (IFCMontréal) and member of the SMB Advisory Committee of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF).
