A team in place to improve processes and control risk
The internal auditors at the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec are responsible for assessing risk management, control processes and the governance of our organization as well as the business processes, systems and management practices. This team, which provides the Caisse’s Audit Committee and Management with independent and objective opinions, also aims to optimize resources in terms of effectiveness, efficiency and savings.
The auditors’ responsibilities cover 3 areas of expertise:
- Management audit, through a review of the Caisse’s activities, systems, processes and functions, designed to determine whether the internal controls are sufficient and adequate and to ensure that the management practices are effective and profitable;
- Information technology audit, through a review of the systems, security, data integrity and other related processes as well as participation in technology project pilot committees;
- Advisory services, through various reviews carried out at the request of management who calls on the expertise in risk analysis and controls and in improvements to processes performed by the internal audit team.
To ensure the utmost rigour in its activities, the Caisse provides itself with the appropriate resources so its internal auditors may effectively assume their responsibilities. As a result, the internal auditors benefit from all the latitude required to perform their work independently.
The Internal Audit team’s day-to-day activities consist of:
- Leading audits of the Caisse teams’ higher-risk activities;
- Making the appropriate recommendations and performing follow-ups.
Our audit professionals, who work with the support of other specialists, use rigorous and recognized work methods. They use approved terms of reference and standards and policies applicable to the Caisse and the financial industry in general.
